“The legendary Slayer zine gets its long overdue anthology”—Decibel

“Presiding over the birth of extreme metal from its Scandinavian heartland, the first issue of the legendary Slayer fanzine was cranked out in 1985 and over the years shifted its coverage to provide an insider view of Swedish death metal and Norwegian black metal through their formative and most controversial years.”—Terrorizer

“Best idea since sliced bread.”—Fenriz

Founded in 1985 in Sarpsborg, Norway, Slayer Mag quickly rose to prominence by championing countless unsigned death metal pioneers. The pages of Slayer Mag became a written gospel for the fledgling extreme metal underground, combining eye-ripping graphics, brutally honest writing, and a relentless and sick sense of humor. As black metal rose to prominence in Norway in the 1990s, Slayer Mag remained the final word on the moods and motivations of those dark times. In addition to rare archival material unseen in decades, the book will include unreleased and exclusive interviews and artwork, including historical photographs, and never-before-seen portrait photography by editor Jon “Metalion” Kristiansen.

I always dreamed of a copy at that time and had several copies thanks to friend PICOROCO REC.(RIP), but the tragic and sad that I lost due to a violent assault that happened to me. I still remember my copies and now desperately restless waiting for the release build and buy the book SLAYER -the return.
I look forward to book me know the book and buy it, because I find it unfair to the sale on ebay for some old copies of crazy prices and unattainable for an old metalhead fan zine Chile, karlo.

  8. Hello, when release this book? and what is the price?.

  9. as a fanzine editor of the 80ties. I’m more than interested and happy to read this book is coming out this year. I remember SLAYER mag as one of the best(if not the best) fanzine from those years. Jon Metallion surely was a good writter and also had a good point of view to see the real talented bands from all over the world. Here in Chile we had a killer scene filled with fanzines, and underground bands…. Recently I put our the first book that tell the story of the first decade of thrash in Chile. Filled with flyers, fanzines, pics, and awesome layout… Interested parties, get in touch: corvusdiscos@gmail.com

  10. My all time favorite Extreme Metal Zine! Of all the zines that I did interviews with, I’m most proud of the one I did with the Mighty Metalion for Slayer X. He was my best penpal, and we finally got to meet in person when we played Wacken in 2001. Fuckin’ great guy, great writer, and I can’t wait for this release. Arne is Metal. Metalion is Metal. Slayer mag is Metal.

  11. I think this was the best underground magazine in 80′s the world i can’t wait to have it.
    cheers from colombia!!!!

  12. Oh, f*ck!
    I can’t wait for the book…
this will be available in which countries?

  13. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase… can’t wait for 2010! I need this book in my hands now! Metalion rules and the trendy and shitty metal scene of today doesn’t deserve a guy like him! But we deserve this book because we got the old spirit yet! Ha! Respect him!

  14. I discovered MASTER`S HAMMER (CZ) thanks to this zine.

Metallion was a great guy as was Öystein of Mayhem.

I didn’t like many of the bands he featured But he had a personal style and love for the music.

    M

  15. This is really a nice new! I can’t wait to have in my hands this masterpiece! All of us that have made underground magazines in last decades were influenced directly or no by his mind and works! I’m gonna count the days…

  16. I bought my first issue of Slayer mag back in ´88 and I was hooked at once. I still got the numbers i got hold on, but the condition is´nt that good after all these years, so this book is more than welcome..
without Metalion we wouldn´t have the scene we have today…Hail Jon (with one burger in each hand)

  17. I HOPE YOUR INCREDIBLE STUFF, SLAYER WAS A BIG ZINE FROM late 80s. SALUTE YOU, FROM BESTIAL CONSPIRACY ZINE.

  18. Probably the biggest inspiration on the direction my zine took back in the late 80s/early 90s.

Jon was a rip and a great guy to trade/talk bands with: glad to see his great mag get its due in book form.

    I’ll be there…
